Everyone around the globe deserves access to decent shelter!
Families challenged by poverty, geography, disasters, and conflict often face dire housing situations as they struggle to rebuild their lives. Today, more than 800 million people worldwide live in slums. Millions of them are children, and many more are entirely homeless. Lack of clean water and sanitation claim the lives of more than 1.8 million young children every year.
And the numbers are rising. By 2020, it’s estimated that the worlds’ slum population will reach almost 1 billion. We cannot wait to make safe, affordable shelter a priority. Too much is at stake.
Increased access to decent housing opens the door to a better and more stable future for families and children. Habitat for Humanity houses are simple, decent and affordable to low-income families around the world. Whenever possible, we build sustainable, energy-efficient housing and repair older homes in order to contribute to neighborhood revitalization.
We need your help to lift more families and children out of the slums, and give them access to safe, affordable housing. Sign our pledge to make housing a priority!
