KEY VERSE: “Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever” (Psalm 106:1).
The Bible is full of commands to give thanks to God, and many verses go on to lay emphasis on His everlasting mercy (love) and goodness as reasons for us to praise Him. Thanksgiving and praise always go together, because we cannot adequately praise and worship God without also being thankful to Him. Feeling and expressing appreciation is good, because, like any wise father, God wants us to learn to be thankful for all the gifts He has given us (James 1:17).
According to Cecero, “A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.” Young people forget so soon that everything they have is a gift from God, and without gratefulness, they, like most human beings, become arrogant, self-centered and covetous and tend to focus on what they do not have. They begin to believe that they have achieved everything on their own. Are you one of such young people? Thankfulness keeps our hearts in right relationship to God, the Giver of all good gifts. Therefore, constantly thank God in every situation so as to receive His merciful blessings.
