Singer and songwriter JJ Heller has released a new mother’s day song written from a different angle. “Always,” written by JJ Heller, David Heller, and Andy Gullahorn, comes from the perspective of a mother who suffered a miscarriage.
Heller talks about the touching story behind the song. “For years I’ve been asked to write a song like this, and for the longest time I avoided it because I didn’t think it was my place. Miscarriage isn’t my story, but I know it is for so many mamas.
A wise songwriter friend of mine pushed back against my reluctance and he challenged me to write the song anyway. He reminded me that the sacred responsibility of a songwriter is to wrap words around human emotion… to give a voice to feelings that are otherwise too hard to articulate.
So it is with deep humility that I offer this song to you. I did my best to put myself in your shoes, but I realize I will never truly know what you’ve experienced. I’m so very sorry you’ve had to feel this deepest type of pain and I pray that God might use this song bring you comfort.”
