“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God” (Colossians3:22).
Service is a privilege. There are two kinds of servants described in our text today bad servants who serve poorly and good servants who serve well. Bad servants are men pleasers’ and offer eye service.’Like the Pharisees of old, they love the praises and approvals of men. They do their good work to be seen by men. On the other hand, good servants are God pleasers and seek only the approval of God. They serve men in singleness of mind in order to please God.
We have many opportunities to serve in one capacity or another. We may be called to service at home or in the Church; we may be privileged to serve in the school or in the community. Some of us may be called to serve the nation. Remember, a Christian is a good servant. And it has well been said that one of the supreme tests of godliness is what a Christian does – and does not do – when he is alone. Serve well wherever you serve and be a God pleaser’and not men pleaser’.
Challenge: Good servants are God pleasers.
Prayer: Lord, help me to serve well.
